T-SHIRT - Nautical Polo by Polo

I am loving this nautical polo shirt by Ralph Lauren at My-wardrobe. The crisp white and narrow stripe is a classic look that will never date. You don't actually need to have a yacht to look like you own one and this is a whole lot cheaper. Team with dark denim, or navy board shorts for summer chic. The red crest would look great against a red belt if you really feel like accessorising.

NO NO - Goggle Sunglasses

There have been some interesting innovations when it comes to sunglasses recently. We had those Kanye West shutter style ones, and the ladies were all loving their glasses heart or star shaped. These Google sunglasses though may be a step too far.

These are more NHS glasses (we all know a kid who had them) than designer desirables, and at a hefty £495 you would need to dig pretty deep into your pockets to be able to afford them. Perhaps that is the idea, a style that remains exclusive to those that can afford the inflated price, but lets face it, Primark will have copied them and stuck them on their shelves by next week.

So do you know anyone who could pull these off? Have I missed the point completely?

TRENDS - 3 American Trends for Men

men styleWith a new President, a new year, and a new economy, new styles inevitably follow for America. The Spring trend report from Men.Style.com identifies three new trends for men:

Team America: Barack Obama’s popularity at home and abroad ushers in American-inspired styles from all over the world. And not some waspy, over-idealized version of the place, either, but the real America, home to cookouts, road trips, and baseball (by which we mean baseball jackets.)

Creative Loafing: This Spring trend has guys looking relaxed, and maybe a little bit in need of a shower, even when toiling over the latest macho masterpiece. For a certain artistically-inclined tough guy, it’s all about working hard and looking lazy.

The New Severity: The season’s most fashion-forward trend doesn’t just embrace the future, it helps shape it. How? With rigor, clarity, and clean lines for a dirty world. Playful, it’s not, but then, serious times call for serious clothes.

Boat shoes, tailored khaki suits, slouchy neo-railroad pants, black aviators and leather trimmed Levis are some of the few items on the agenda for Spring 2009. To view the full story, please visit Men.Style.com

 bond sunglasses
With the release of the DVD ‘Quantum of Solace’ on the 23rd March, Bond’s style has never been more relevant. Tom Ford didn't just outfit Daniel Craig in suits for the movie, he did the eyewear too and Limited Edition Tom Ford James Bond 007 TF108 sunglasses are now available.

These aviator-style sunglasses are the exclusive shades featured in the latest James Bond movie " Quantum of Solace" and feature ‘James Bond 007’ inscribed on the case, cleaning cloth, and on the frame. The glasses have leather temple tips with a Tom Ford logo plate inlaid on both ends and retail for £209 from the new menswear site at www.my-wardrobe.com.

So if you think you could give Daniel Craig a run for his money, grabs yours and perhaps you will get Pussy Galore.

STYLE - Shoe Watch at the Noisettes Gig

I went to see the Noisettes this week. I highly recommend if you get a chance to see them play by the way. They have a great energy, seem completely down to earth and are brilliant at what they do. Their track 'Don't upset the Rhythm has been all over national radio recently.

While at the gig, I was on shoe watch...

Dan Smith of the Noisettes turned up in white skinny jeans, of which I am not a fan. They did, however, have a cute button detail at the bottom which somewhat compensated for the fact that they were white jeans. Dan's shoe of choice was a rather shiny, black loafer. I was dazzled, I loved them.

Earlier on in the evening a local Brighton band played, Le Band Extraordinaire. They had a great eccentric style that went from Paris to Eastern European and all the way back again. Saxophonist Alex Painter had on some great grey, orange and blue trainers; just the right mix of worn-in and shiny. A perfect palette for futuristic block colour - a huge trend right now.

ICON - Why Alexander McQueen Rocks

Article re-published with kind permission of AskMen.com

The son of a taxi driver, East Londoner Alexander McQueen didn’t begin his life with a slew of connections in the fashion world. Instead, it was his incredible imagination coupled with his indisputable abilities as a designer that put him on the fast track to fame. Now hailed as one of the most creative designers alive today, style icon Alexander McQueen is notorious for his theatrical runway shows that elevate fashion to the level of art. Indeed, his reputation has partly been built on his unwillingness to conform to the norm, and his repeated demonstrations of how true style is about cultivating individuality.

Apart from his rebellious spirit, what has also garnered the bad-boy of British fashion a loyal following is his ability to cut clothing like no other. Before graduating with a master’s from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, Alexander McQueen cut his teeth at Savile Row tailors Anderson & Sheppard, where it is rumored that he routinely graffitied profanities into linings intended for Prince Charles’ suits. A brief stint at costumier Angels and Berman further instilled the importance of attention to detail in Alexander McQueen.

While his clothes are technically exquisite, what really solidifies McQueen’s style icon status is that his collections, always an appealingly eclectic and cutting-edge mix of tradition and punk, inspire both individuals and the fashion world at large to push the boundaries of style. In 2004, McQueen released his first menswear collection and was named British Menswear Designer of the Year.

DESIGNER - Galliano Goes All Out

So John Galliano's autumn/winter 2009 show has taken us back a couple of hundred years. In the first part of the show there are gothic, romantic features with military and nautical influences. The leather boots are a new look for men, especially worn over trousers. Will you be adopting the trend?

The show moves on to a more global traveller vibe, with some hints of punk culture. This is a bit scruffy for my tastes, but a version of this look is certainly going to be big in the coming months. And what about the men in suspenders... not sure that one is for the high street!
