Knitwear is not just the practical option for winter, for 2008, it is the most stylish. I love greys and charcoals best for this look and layering is key. Don't be scared to look too 'Geek', that is the hottest way to wear the trend.
A plain white tee under the cardie will keep things simple, and team with skinny jeans for an eighties vibe, or your standard cut jeans for a more modern take. Cardigans on men do tend to suit those with a narrower frame. If that isn't you, you can still get away with a cardigan, just make sure that it is not too snug. You could also try a vertical stripe or knit to add height, rather than width.
You need to wear your cardigan buttoned up too. Undone just doesn't have the same style credentials I am afraid. Be bold and go for patterned knitwear if you dare. You could also swap a smart suit jacket for a cardigan instead, wearing your tie tucked in. Smart and pretty sexy too!
